6 Revelations that blew my mind

A few years back…my life hit the rock bottom…My fairytalish rose-tinted view of Life shattered and I slipped into the Victim Mode which screams Why Me?….I got no answers…Determined to find the answers…I kept  reading whatever I thought would lead me to an answer….Neck deep into books, I came across a beautiful excerpt that made me feel…Yes!! This makes some sense…The excerpt said ..

Testing times do not end till you learn the lesson you are supposed to learn from them.... Click To Tweet

It was then that my question shifted from Why me? to What is this Time teaching me?….In this journey I had a few breakthrough AHA moments which totally rocked my world and changed the way I perceive reality. They presented themselves as truths which were crucial for me in my journey from being a compulsive thinker to a Conscious Creator…

Maybe you have already had some of them or would be having them soon…

  1. You are not your thoughts.

The first time I read that, I wondered if Alan Finger had lost his mind… How can I and my thoughts be different from each other? I had taken for granted that the blabber in my head was “me”

Now..I see quite clearly that life is nothing but passing experiences, and thoughts are just one more of those experiences. Thoughts are no more fundamental than smells, sights and sounds. Like any experience, they arise in your awareness and have power over you, if you choose to engage in them

If you can observe your thoughts just like you can observe other objects, who’s doing the observing? And what is being observed? Are they both the same?

2. It’s only the present Moment.

This is the most important thing I’ve ever learnt… Nobody has ever experienced anything that wasn’t part of a single moment unfolding. That means life’s only challenge is dealing with the single moment you are having right now. Before I acknowledged this, I was constantly either replaying my past or trying to figure out my whole future life at once…

The present moment is the only point of contact with life... Nobody can deal with the past or future, because, both only exist as thoughts, in the present. Click To Tweet

But we can kill ourselves trying to deal with all three at once…A very famous Bollywood yesteryear’s song aptly says- Aage bhi jaane na tu…peeche bhi jaane na tu…Jo bhi hai “BAS YEHI EK PAL HAI”

It becomes so much easier when you know your only responsibility is dealing with the present moment…This revelation relieved me from the heavy weight of the past and the future that I was always carrying around…

3. Most of what we think is imaginary.

Man is a compulsive thinker and most of the times doesn’t differentiate between his thoughts and reality. He most of the times thinks, his thoughts are his reality and acts out of it…

Most of what we interact with.. is not the world itself, but our beliefs about it, our expectations of it, and our personal interests in it. We have a very difficult time observing something as it is without smearing it with our perspective… so the bulk of what we experience in life is imaginary.

As Mark Twain said: “I’ve been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” Click To Tweet

The only solution herein is to be Aware of the tendency of the mind to project imagination as reality.

4. We love to suffer.

Yes you read it right…We love to suffer…rather that is what we are best doing at…Previously I used to believe that if I was suffering it meant that there was something wrong with me — that I was doing  wrong or I was wronged…. Whatever I did…my mind played this on loop – “this isn’t right, I need to improve this,”… This revelation made me understand that this urge to change or escape the present moment drives nearly all of our behaviour. It’s a ruthless survival mechanism which works well for keeping us alive…Describes best why we are so hooked to mass media which mostly does nothing but glorifies suffering…Also explains why  Victim mode has become a comfort zone for most. As harsh as it sounds, this revelation is insightful because it means: 1) that suffering does not necessarily mean something is gravely wrong, 2) Since it’s a natural tendency of the human mind…the degree to which you suffer is ultimately up to you…

5. We all act out of three subconscious drivers: to fulfill our desires, to escape our suffering and both.

Understanding this allowed me to finally make sense of how people can hurt each other so badly. It also allowed me to being least judgmental and not throwing people out of my life because they hurt me… No matter what kind of behavior people exhibit, they are acting to the best of their capabilities (at the given time) to either fulfill a desire or to relieve their suffering and in some cases both. These are motives we can all mostly understand; we only vary in how we project them. These projections depend on our upbringing and our experiences in life, as well as our state of consciousness. Some people fulfill their desires, or escape their suffering skilfully without hurting others while others are crude and destructive…  Understanding this completely shook my long-held beliefs about taking things personally when someone behaved unpleasantly…

6.Change requires repetition

Repetition is the word…Man is a creature of habit…we have a strong tendency to slip towards our past thinking patterns unless we anchor our self to new thought systems through repetition…No revelation, AHA moment is going to make sense long term unless you remind yourself daily of what you have learnt…Repeat what you’ve learnt ..until it becomes autopilot for you…That is when real time changes start happening…
